Soundscape: Online Green Light Review 01

Soundscape: Animatic Version 01

Sound Scape: Original SFX and Edited SFX

My original sounds and  the edited sounds for the creatures in the animatic. I need to focus on what sounds I need to get next to make my animatic feel more complete, such as fire crackling, wood scraping, walking on leaves, taping on wood and more specialized sounds for the animatic.

Sound Scape: Storyboard

In my scene I wanted to focus on one of the characters on the top of the image and to show them traveling through the image as if they were there, so I used the character that looks like an animal and behaves similar to a cat, likes to explore and escape mischief.

It's all about him travelling through the tree lines at first and he gets interrupted by some strange sounds he then jumps onto the ground where he see's the horror of the creatures and what they are doing, so he decides to flee up onto the archway/bridge. He then proceeds to find the imp ontop of the bridge, and decides to look over at the scene from above, this is when we reveal the overall image at the very end.

If it were to go onto animation, I think I would keep the creature a sillouette and play around with the shadows with him blending into the shadows as he goes through the trees. Now onto the animatic :)

CG Artist Toolkit: Sack Animation

During this morning's animation class with Meg we had to complete our sack animation, although I forgot to draw the box on another layer so I will correct this at a later date. He's kind of a fat sack who is a bit clumsy who falls off at the end but I feel the sack could have more personality looking back at the animation.

From Script to Screen: Further development of logline, premise and Story

Logline

A magician that is lost within himself and struggles to carry on in his lonely world.

Premise

In isolation would your powers drive you insane?

Plot

Archy , Age: 37 from Venice, live in an attic in a top apartment.

Set in Venice in the 20th century. Archy lives in a top apartment in Venice where he wishes to one day perform in front of an audience with the use of his magic. He is in a constant battle with himself as the other half of him loves to play the trombone. Each night he performs the same show in front of the same audience routinely without fail. During the show it switches back and forth between the musician and the magician doing different tricks to win over the audience.

At the end of the show it reveals that it is himself alone surrounded by nobody but wood cut outs of an audience in an abandoned attic. He then turns around to look at a mirror where he see's a reflection of himself showing the two different sides of his personality. Furthermore to lead back out to an establishing shot showing a run down area of his surroundings. (where in the beginning of the sequence there will be a shot showing the surrounding area being well-lit, green and with lots of people running around, like a busy market place).

This idea was a mixture of my first ideas, I found it hard to put my ideas into writing so here is general idea:
  • Magician who has a split personality, one being a magician and one being a musician.
  • The audience is lead to believe that it is two different people in the performance but then reveals it being the same character.
  • He is left in isolation because he seen to be mad and therefore is left in a town where people don't really exist.
  • Set in Venice
  • The start location setting is the opposite of the end setting, where the first is cheerful, bright colours and happy etc, and the end setting, is dark, poorly lit, raining, and desaturated colour palette. I think the location will represent the contrast of what he thinks he living like in comparison to what his life is like in reality.
  • The magician character could be humanized, or if I decide to use animals I was thinking a chameleon which could add some humor to the script.

CG Arts and Animation Toolkit: Gesture Drawing 01

Single Line Drawings without looking at the person

This was my first time doing gesture drawing apart from the times in life drawing, I was not sure how to approach it at first but by the end of the lesson I felt a lot more confident approaching gesture drawing and I feel this shows through the development of my drawings.

Soundscape Design: 13.01.2014

Here is my first try at garageband experimenting with sounds in comparison to my painting. I was thinking incorporating the mountains and the motion of being free with happy music, then leading onto the business of the down below with harsher music. Some sound effects that I was thinking of getting were, rustling wood, fire, wind, people rushing, screaming maybe?.

When first looking at this piece of art I saw the figure in the top left and imagined him to like a fairy or pixy, I think he will play an important role within the scene when it comes to storyboarding.

Life Drawing: 15.01.2014

Today was mainly getting back into the groove of life drawing again, starting with four five minute poses followed by two 25-30 minute studies of the body. I had focused on the feet and hands because I tend to struggle with these parts of the body when drawing the body I also struggle with the face but I will focus on the face in future life drawings classes. It feels good to get back into drawing again :)

Script to Screen - Mindmap

My three words for this project are:

Magician
Attic
Trombone

Just trying to get my thoughts down so I can start to carve out my story and refine it and to think logically about how I can use the three elements to there fullest within my story.

Maya Pre-Viz 01 - Camera Rig

Final Shot Cam

Camera Set up

Camera Rig Set up

After completing the camera set up I now understand how to set up a simple camera for an animation in maya. I will be using this camera for later works throughout the course as this will come in handy.

Soundscape: Key Frame - The Temptation of Saint Anthony

For the Sounscape project I had picked out folder number 5 which contained this image called: '' The temptation of saint Anthony'' By Matthais Grunewald. At first I was overwelmed with the businessness of the image but then I realised this gave me a lot of ideas for what sounds I need to collect and how the to tell the story. I want to include sounds such as birds for the high mountains, fire the road leading down and then mixed noises for the creatures, altogether this could be a fun project trying to collect all the different sounds needed.
